Pararge aegeria on Rosa rugosa
After I "accidentally" uploaded an image of Aglais io last night (my head not screwed on correctly, thinking for a moment that JD hardly had any images of these), I figured I might as well continue on that streak of "Non-moth extremely common butterflies" and at least add this one too, that was sitting almost next to the Peacock ;o)
The speckled wood is a butterfly found in and on the borders of woodland areas throughout much of the Palearctic realm. The species is subdivided into multiple subspecies, including "Pararge aegeria aegeria", "Pararge aegeria tircis", "Pararge aegeria oblita", and "Pararge aegeria insula".
