Your remarks on tags to me only re-affirm that using tags for species names may not have been the best strategy. It gives the illusion that this is the way to find species existing, and the mistaken belief that the name/number is accurate.
People may chose not to tag at all. Delete a tag. A species may has its name changed. There's old photos before this feature came that have no species tags at all.
Tags are unmanaged, and so are tags with species names. You cannot draw any reliable conclusion from it at all.
To check if a species exist:
https://www.jungledragon.com/wildlife/browse
...type the species name in the search box. To find all images of a species, use the species info box photos link.
Better: don't check if a species exists, and just upload in any case :) Posted 5 years ago
The choice of what to upload is also basically a matter of time, so I don't spend time in looking for good images of a species like the Peacock and cropping/rotating the image etc. if there is already plenty here - time better spent on species or life stages still missing. The two butterflies landed virtually smack in front of me, so pressing the shutter a few times and doing a quick crop and upload wasn't too much of a distraction, so thereyago ... ;o) Posted 5 years ago
To be clear, I don't have anything against tags, I love it when people use them in creative ways. Yet they do have some limitations. Posted 5 years ago
