Checkered Keelback Watersnake

Only snake I could photograph in my Goa visit. This is one of the very commonly occurring species in India. It survives extreme conditions like one can also spot them in dirty waters of the gutter and one can also see them fishing in cleanest water of the rivers and the streams. They also sometimes show reddish morph but mostly seen in olive green colours. Interestingly, there are observations by many of seeing this species scavenge on road kills. Yes, a snake which scavenge!
