
Malagasy Giant Chameleon - shy
This specie is best renamed to Malagasy SHY Chameleon. Between me and the chameleon was a ridge of rocks that blocked me from getting closer. Since the chameleon was on the back of this branch, I tried repeatedly to approach it from a different angle for a side shot, but every time I did so, it would mirror my move exactly so that it was always facing me as on this photo. This ritual dance continued for several minutes, until I gave up. Well played, Mr Oustalet!

The Oustalet's or Malagasy Giant Chameleon is a very large species of chameleon that is endemic to Madagascar, but also has been introduced near Nairobi in Kenya . It occurs in a wide range of habitats, even among degraded vegetation within villages, but is relatively rare in primary forest. With a maximum length of 68.5 cm , it is often considered the largest species of chameleon, though some suggest that prize goes to ''Calumma parsonii''.
