Ostrich Fern Fiddlehead - Matteuccia struthiopteris
The unfurled, sterile leaves, which first appear above ground during the spring, are rolled and circular in shape. At this stage of development, they are referred to as 'fiddleheads' or 'croziers'.
The scales (brown bits) on the ostrich fern rub off when you clean them.
