Aztec Tobacco, Nicotiana rustica.
We grew this plant outside out “deer protected” area and it has survived well. A few of the younger deer have nibbled on a few leaves but have obviously not liked the taste because the remains of the leaves have been left beside the plant. We do not plan on making any cigars!

''Nicotiana rustica'', Aztec tobacco or strong tobacco, called ucuch in southern Mexico due to its Mayan roots, mapacho in South America, Bauerntabak in Germany, and thuoc lao in Vietnam, is a rainforest plant in the family Solanaceae. It is a very potent variety of tobacco, containing up to nine times more nicotine than common species of ''Nicotiana'' such as ''Nicotiana tabacum''.
