Hooded vulture portrait
Portrait of a hooded vulture at a bird show. His nickname is Pinocchio because of his long 'nose'.
The color of the head becomes paler when he is feeling uncomfortable.
Note that the head is completely bald except for some hairs in front of it's eyes and around it's ears. I guess these hairs are to keep debris out during flight.
Hooded vultures their beak is not strong enough to penetrate the leather skin of animals, but is more adept in reaching difficult spots. They wait for larger vultures to open up a carcass and eat the remains when the larger vultures are finished eating.
Dutch name: Kappengier
