  1. Amazing that you're able to even find it! Posted 5 years ago
    1. This is still a decent size, the trend among serious underwater macro-photographers are subjects of less than 5 mm in size and the pictures they took are still amazing. But the set-up of their camera can be so 'ridiculous' ... ha ha! For macro photography underwater especially with dSLR cameras, diopters are required, in the early days, we only have x2, x5 and x10 magnifications. Then photographers started to stack 2 diopters like x10 + x10 or x10 + x5, but nowadays, you can get x15 or x20 and even with that high magnification, they may still stacks x15 + x10. The pics they get is simply mind blowing with so much details on the tiny stuff. And that is doing serious extreme-macrophotography on moving subjects, challenging underwater conditions like current, angle/position and lighting.

And with regards finding them, there are quite a few Underwater Spotters this days who specialises in looking for the tiny and super tiny stuff. What they can find is simply mind blowing.

When back in my regular underwater playground, I like to dive with a friend who is a very good Spotter for the tiny stuff, and he just know how and where to find them :D

Check out the posts by my friend, lidaalcaxar, her super macro shots are very good. Look at this example of a Hairy Shrimp, usually around 4-5 mm in size, but very difficult subject due to its colour but she managed to separate the subject from the difficult back ground in this shot :

      1. Underwater extreme macro stacks have to be the ultimate macro fronteer!
Makes you consider how everything is relative.
