      As a side note, I was amazed to see that, based on at least one molecular study, the one Indo-Malaysian species (the speckled piculet) is really part of the same genus as the 25 or so others, which are all found in the Neotropics!

        1. Not a clue, I can't think of a single comparable case. My gut feeling is that eventually it will be given its own genus.

Lafresnaye's piculet is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
