    1. This one was reviewed at the time by Arp, who breeds them, and is quite an authority on these species.

      To the best of my understanding, here are the differences between the 10 spot and 14 spot. The 10 spot may have any number of spots, so the name is not helpful. The 14 spot typically actually has 14 spots, yet usually several have merged together into squarish bars as seen in the photo above. Another key difference is that the 10 spot has pale legs, but this difference can't be seen in the above photo.

      That's the best I could dig up as a non-expert. An expert can reliably tell them apart from just a photo.

The 14-spotted ladybird is a small lady beetle, belonging to the family Coccinellidae. It is sometimes referred to by the common name 14-spotted ladybird beetle, or simply P-14.
