Little Striped Whiptail in White Sands National Park New Mexico Not a great picture (I was especially disappointed not to get his head), but these are incredibly fast moving and only tend to stop under a plant or in some other way stay hidden. The most important feature is the blue tail of the males in any case, and you can see this really well in this image. The little striped whiptail is a species of lizard found in the southwestern United States and in northern Mexico. It is called ''little'' to distinguish it from many other species known as striped whiptails and to indicate that it is the smallest of those species.
