Curious crimson rosella moment
On this rainy, windy and grey day, I happened to look through a house window, and saw a crimson rosella feeding on the dandelions that I allow to grow in my grass. I expected it to fly away after a short while, but it continued in that place, indeed its head appeared to drop to its chest at times and it seemed to be sheltering up hard against the wall and I began to worry that it might be injured or generally unwell. I chose to continue watching through the window for a while, for fear of going outside and alarming it - and the bird stayed where it was for thirty minutes, occasionally nibbling on the seeds. Then at last, it took to the air with a burst of beautiful colour and disappeared over the tree tops. I've never seen one remain in one position for that length of time before!
35 cm in length

The crimson rosella is a parrot native to eastern and south eastern Australia which has been introduced to New Zealand and Norfolk Island. It is commonly found in, but not restricted to, mountain forests and gardens. The species as it now stands has subsumed two former separate species, the yellow rosella and the Adelaide rosella.
