Edible Frog - frontal, Heesch, Netherlands

I was taking a small break by sitting on the edge of this small pond when I spotted this Edible frog, in dutch also named Bastard Frog or Middle Green frog.

After initially spooking it with my presence, it then came back close to shore. Sitting there stationary and occassionally lashing out at small insects foolish enough to approach the water edge.

  cruel though & do they not now import them from the rice paddies - so doing away with an eco-friendly way of keeping the pests down & requiring people like Mr Monsanto etc? Nice pics Ferdy Posted 5 years ago

    I have no real idea about it, David. I ate them in France about 20 years ago, but would never do it now. Honestly, I eat very little meat and when I do, I buy local meat that was raised and killed as humanely as possible. How terrible that frogs are no longer harvested in an eco-friendly way...this seems to be the way it is for most foods these days, depending on where you live. We purposely choose to shop mostly local and at an organic market, even though it costs more. It's a small way to try to make a difference. Sadly, not everyone has that option or ability.       We're very similar in that we eat very little meat, maybe once every 3-6 months - have seen the light1 I think I ate frogs' legs once in London in the late 1970's - that dates me. ;¬) Posted 5 years ago
