Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) Sadly I was too far away for this shot, I could not even see him until I zoomed in after uploading it. Don't look too close!. Just below was a Robin sat on a branch but he was out of focus, it is amazing what you can photograph by just pointing and snapping! 1. Excellent spotting, Bridget! You managed to capture it on film, and with patience surely one day it will be in a better position. Posted 12 years ago
    1. Thank you. From where I was standing I could hardly see it and have to say this is my first shot of such a bird. I would love to get an much better shot though. Posted 12 years ago
  2. It looks different from the other redwing that has been uploaded - I don't see any red here. Could it be a Song Thrush - Turdus philomelos or maybe another one (T. viscivorus or T. pilaris)? Posted 12 years ago
    1. Okay I think I this is probably a Song Thrush Posted 12 years ago, modified 12 years ago

        1. Funnily enough I saw one at work today and it was singing so beautifully and lo and behold the same as my photo so now I am convinced! Posted 12 years ago

The Song Thrush is a thrush that breeds across much of Eurasia. It is also known in English dialects as throstle or mavis. It has brown upperparts and black-spotted cream or buff underparts and has three recognised subspecies. Its distinctive song, which has repeated musical phrases, has frequently been referred to in poetry.
