  2. Hi Paul, I think this is not T.fasciatus but T.gallicus.
The first black band on the elytra of T.fasciatus reaches the scutellum or even spread across the wing-case, while at T.gallicus the black blotches on the wing-case are similar sizes to other blotches.
BTW, here from all the 5 photos, only one is of T.fasciatus:
Trichius fasciatus - Bee-beetle, Finland Bee-beetle (Trichius fasciatus) is present in most of Europe and in the East Palearctic ecozone. It is common also in Finland. In this image it's feeding on Wood Cranesbill (Geranium sylvaticum). Bee-beetle,Coleoptera,Finland,Geotagged,Pohjois-Karjala,Scandinavia,Scarabaeidae,Summer,Trichius,Trichius fasciatus, insect

I have edited the other 3 entries accordingly.

    1. I agree with Jivko that it is probably (!) gallicus (aka zonatus), but the colour pattern is _not_ deemed a secure character for ID. This is a male. If you have a (big/sharp) close-up of the tibia of the second leg and/or a shot of the ventral side of the abdomen it may help to secure the ID. Posted 5 years ago
    2. Ahw, yes - I remember looking at this one before now ...
The thing is, that Fauna Europaea only lists T. fasciatus for Finland and not "zonatus" (gallicus)...
      So, either:
      1) this is fasciatus and shows exactly why the colour pattern is not reliable for ID
      2) this is gallicus (or sexualis?) and you have a new species for Finland
      3) Fauna Europaea is full of sh*t
      ...
Either way, it would be nice to see the characters that _do_ work for ID :o)

P.S. These pages seem to suggest that "zonatus" has been recorded in Finland before (by Bert Gustafsson):

      1. Arp, I think the photo is taken in the Netherlands! :-) Posted 5 years ago
        1. Huh?! Must have not have had my head screwed on correctly last night ... could have sworn the Geotag was pointing at Finland :-/
(oh duh: must have messed that up with the image that Jivko linked, from Finland *rolleyes*)
Okay, so that makes gallicus (aka onatus) all the more likely.
