  1. Am I the only one who has a soft spot for woodlice? Just look at this little beauty in all its fine detail. And just this morning, I helped a friend out with an ID on Facebook who saw one in her garden and was convinced she'd seen wings.....imagine her increased confusion when I told her they were in the same subphylum as prawns. I mean, I can totally see it - she was not convinced! Posted 5 years ago

Are you kidding? I know I don't have most species here (yet), but I think even the current 100Oniscidea qualifies as "soft spot": Or alternatively:

Would love to see some more from Down Under (*hinthint*) ;o)

      1. :O wow, that is remarkable.....ha ha, obviously I'm not alone! Point taken, I shall keep my eye out for our little crustacean friends. Posted 5 years ago
    2. I think if you'd ask a 100 people, 99 would not know that they are not insects. And that may be generous. Which is no accusation to anyone, I also didn't know for a long time, and the term "insect" in common language refers to anything looking like a bug, spiders included. Posted 5 years ago

Yup - this is even what the original scientific taxon "Insecta" included when first erected by Linnaeus(!)
