Snail-killing Fly - Sepedon fuscipennis Sorry for the bad quality! My son handed me this fly this morning before I had my camera and flash ready. It only stayed on my finger long enough to get a few bad shots.<br />

Sorry for the bad quality! My son handed me this fly this morning before I had my camera and flash ready. It only stayed on my finger long enough to get a few bad shots.

This is a snail-killing fly! The larvae feed on aquatic snails.

Habitat: Woodland pond edge

    1. Lol, It really stayed on my finger on its own...The fly was wet because my son had caught it in his net, along with other things in the edge of the pond. He handed it to me and I picked up my camera quickly to snap a shot, knowing that the fly wouldn't stay on my finger for long. After a few seconds, the fly had recovered enough and it flew away.
