Deer Mouse (Peromyscus sp.) Sign on Acorn This is just speculation, but I suspect that the hole in this acorn was made by a deer mouse. They chew small holes in the acorn to extract acorn weevil larvae. They may or may not eat the rest of the acorn. In this case, it was not eaten.<br />
