"The praying mantis is an oddity in nature. They hide in plain sight, have cryptic behavior, can rotate their heads 180 degrees, and move with slow deliberation as if they were performing a dance. They are ambush predators with martial arts moves and a taste for flesh. Using their powerful, raptorial legs, they strike with lightning speed to capture fast-flying insects from the air. They can jump with extreme precision, contorting their bodies in midair to land on a precarious, moving target. These fearsome predators are the athletes of the insect world, and we are lucky that mantises aren't our size! {Photo of Empusa fasciata taken by JungleDragon user, blackdiamond} #JungleDragon" Posted 6 years ago
