Puncha ratzeburgi w aberrations - CC-BY collection Naturalis

Already have this image on Wikimedia Commons, but might as well have a version here too.
My work needs no credits (as usual: PD/CC0) but Naturalis Biodiversity Center (Leiden, Netherlands) must be credited for the use of their collection.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This image is tagged as "Netherlands" according to JD policy but all the specimen depicted are from other countries.
This species DOES NOT OCCUR IN THE NETHERLANDS!!

Some explanation:
Green: Standard factory issue
Blue: Minor aberrations from standard pattern
Orange: More conspicuous aberrations, that occur regularly nevertheless
Red: Aberration that could cause confusion or even misidentification
Gray arrow: Points to detail of same animal

  Thanks Christine - that basically was created for myself to "learn" the variation within the species from looking at collection specimen. We don't have the species here, so no chance to learn that in the field ;o) Posted 5 years ago
