  1. That is one very interesting looking weevil.Just think of this one being bigger, it would worry you with its jaw. Posted 5 months ago
    1. You are right. Looking at its snout, I wouldn't say it is a weevil. Posted 5 months ago
  2. Today's Facebook post:

Whether you think it resembles tree bark or bird poop, one thing is for sure—the cramp-ball fungus weevil (Platyrhinus resinosus) is strikingly cryptic and beautiful!! These weevils live across Europe, and the larvae develop inside a fungus known as cramp balls (Daldinia concentrica), aka King Alfred's Cakes. {Spotted in Bulgaria by JungleDragon moderator, Jivko Nakev} #JungleDragon #Platyrhinusresinosus #weevil

Platyrhinus resinosus (Scopoli, 1763) is a weevil of Anthribidae family. This large and distinctive weevil might only be confused with the similarly large Platystomos albinus but is readily distinguished by the presence of an incomplete transverse sub-basal pronotal keel, with a little experience both are immediately recognized. 7-15mm.
