Napoleon in rehab
On a visit to the rehab station Wildlife Works Inc. in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, I met Napoleon, an American kestrel. The name given to him by staff did make me smile - I couldn't get past his pantaloons and quite cocky attitude. They told me that he had been there a fair while, but for what, I forget.
25 cm length

The American Kestrel, sometimes colloquially known as the Sparrow Hawk, is a small falcon, and the only kestrel found in the Americas. It is the most common falcon in North America, and is found in a wide variety of habitats. At 19–21 cm long, it is also the smallest falcon in North America. It exhibits sexual dimorphism in size and plumage, although both sexes have a rufous back with noticeable barring. Juveniles are similar in plumage to adults.

I read this on their Facebook page:
"Napoleon the Kestrel is one of our resident educational animals. A Kestrel is a small Hawk that's common to our area although not commonly observed in residential settings. Napoleon was imprinted as a baby by someone wanting to keep him as a pet and as a result has been sentenced to spending life in captivity. He oversees day to day activities in the hospital area, goes to outreach and educational programs and loves having his pic taken." Posted 5 years ago
