Crypsiphona ocultaria dorsal <br />
Commonly known as the red-lined looper moth or red-lined geometer.  The upper surfaces are grey/silver marked with dark irregular lines. The undersides are however striking in colour and markings. They are pale grey, with black submarginal bands, bordered on the inside with red, and the forewings each have a large black spot and an orange patch.<br />

The caterpillar feeds on the leaves of gum trees (Eucalyptus and Angophora species, in family Myrtaceae). <br />

Male, wingspan 40 mm.<br />

    1. A lot are home visitors, you can tell by the the background. I have a large and very high porch which many seem to favour, great protection from the elements. But I've found them in the garage, on exterior walls and in the gardens as well. Posted 5 years ago

        1. You asked previously - thanks to your encouragement, I feel confident I might try this come spring/summer. My only concern is that I live in a high wind area right on the coast, it can literally go from being perfectly still to a gale in 5 minutes. Should I get going on a moth net set up, I'll have to keep a sharp eye on weather reports! Posted 5 years ago
