Native to the Andean region of South America, the pearled treerunner (Margarornis squamiger) is quite the stunner with ornate, pearl-like spots on its breast. It feeds on arthropods, gleaning most of its prey from the moss and epiphytes that encrust tree branches in the tropical montane forests. The name “treerunner” is due to its foraging behavior—running, creeping, hopping, twisting, and hanging upside down on branches. It is quite the little acrobat! {Spotted in Peru by JungleDragon moderator, Thibaud Aronson} #JungleDragon #Margarornissquamiger #Pearledtreerunner
