  1. This is one of the 8 species of tapaculos that are endemic to Peru, out of the 22 that occur in the country!
    I saw 3 species on that single mountainside, all essentially identical, but with some elevational segregation, and VERY distinct songs, which are the key to identifying these cryptic buggers!
