Monarch Emerging from Chrysalis - Danaus plexippus I watched and waited for a couple days for this butterfly to emerge so I could video the the process, and missed it by a few minutes!<br />

Habitat: When the monarch caterpillars (in a rural yard) get ready to pupate, my mother collects them and puts them in mesh enclosures (kept outdoors) where they can pupate and emerge as adults safely before being released. 1. How nice of your mother! Posted 5 years ago
    1. Yep. She does this because of the trouble monarchs have been having. Plus, it reduces the spread of OE in monarchs since you can control the release of infected adults. Posted 5 years ago

The monarch butterfly or simply monarch is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. Other common names depending on region include milkweed, common tiger, wanderer, and black veined brown. It may be the most familiar North American butterfly, and is considered an iconic pollinator species.
