Black-eared kite ventral I hope this shot has sufficient detail.
I learned that kites are opportunist scavengers which goes a long way to explaining the small beak and feet/claws. This is one of a group of black-eared kites seen in an open area not so far from a river but close to forest where many would be resting if not on the wing.
1. The shot is fine, Ruth!

Note that I identified it as Milvus migrans. JungleDragon doesn't really support sub species. It's possible to create records with a sub species name, yet JD does not know it's a sub species specifically. That's why we usually don't bother. You can of course still indicate the sub species in the title, description and tags like you did.

  2. A very cool shot, Ruth! Posted 5 years ago
    1. Thanks Christine. One of those 'too engrossed photographing one subject to remember to change settings for another' moments! Posted 5 years ago

The black kite is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors. It is thought to be the world's most abundant species of Accipitridae, although some populations have experienced dramatic declines or fluctuations.
