Polytrichum formosum - front view, Heeswijk-Dinther, Netherlands
This haircap moss is either a Polytrichum commune, or a Polytrichum formosum. All other haircap mosses can easily be excluded within the Netherlands. I think this is likely Polytrichum formosum, dutch common name "Fraai Haarmos", or "Beautiful Hair Moss".
I've taken some clues from this article (dutch):
https://www.yavannah.nl/infoteksten/haarmos/haarmos.php
Polytrichum formosum:
- Grows in forests only, whilst Polytrichum commune grows in swamps (mostly)
- Very sharp leaf edge
- About 10cm long max (these were 5cm)
- Deep dark green (Polytrichum commune is longer, paler, grows a bit more sloppy)
