
The black-streaked puffbird is a species of puffbird in the family Bucconidae. It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical and tropical moist montane forests.

This is one of the few Andean species (the family reaches its highest diversity in Amazonia), photographed here at 2400 masl. I love how all its feathers are so loose on its body, making it indeed look very puffy! It sat there for about 5 minutes, vocalizing a few times, a whistle so weak I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't seen it open its beak, and then took off with a surprisingly strong and fast flight, never to be seen again.
