Half-wing Moth (Melanic) - Phigalia titea This moth is a melanic male.  I know it&#039;s male because the female of this species is wingless. This is my first time spotting a melanic individual, which was pretty cool! <br />

Fun fact: Melanic morphs of this species seem to prefer white backgrounds, such as white birch.<br />

"Phigalia titea", the spiny looper or half-wing moth, is a species of moth in the family Geometridae. The species was first described by Pieter Cramer in 1780. The average wingspan is about 34 mm.
