Black Agouti at San Isidro Lodge, Ecuador The lodge at San Isidro is famous for birdwatching, but the mammal watching is also quite good. We were not lucky with the resident Mountain Tapirs, but a number of Black Agoutis were fairly easy to see around the lodge and one in particular (pictured) liked to hang around our cabin. 1. Very nice, Barry! Had never heard of this species before. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Thanks Ferdy, I was surprised to see that it was new for JD, seeing as you are so often in Colombia. By the way, when travel becomes possible again, we are stating to consider Colombia - any tips? Posted 5 years ago
      1. We didn't see many mammals at all in Colombia during all 3 trips. We did see the common Agouti near lodges, yet it was fed by the locals.

Happy to give tips for Colombia. Do you mean general tips or tips on specific locations?

        1. More specific locations - anywhere in particular? WE are considering a trip. Posted 5 years ago
          1. I have some "light" reading for you:

For us, south Colombia was the best of the 3 visits, largely because of our interest: deep passion for forests/jungles. In general, you can hardly go wrong regarding location, it's such a gorgeous country.

Main advise is that a good guide is critical, it makes a world of difference and I'd even consider it more important than the location itself.

  5. It was - usually these are super shy. Not surprising when you are small and tasty in the rain forest. Posted 5 years ago
