New Guinea Side-necked Snapping Turtle.
Elseya Novaeguineae. This Side-Necked turtle has really intrigued me this week. It’s neck is kind of double hinged and can fold up in either direction. I flipped it over for this shot. Because it’s neck is so long it quickly flipped its self over with just it’s head. It is a really quick turtle on ground and water. Photographed in the Aiyura Valley in Papua New Guinea.

The Western New Guinea stream turtle or New Guinea snapping turtle is a species of freshwater turtle in the Chelidae family. It is found in the Bird's Head Peninsula and the Bomberai Peninsula west of Cenderawasih Bay, and on the island of Waigeo of West Papua, Indonesia.
