Hooded Vulture in hotel garden At our first hotel in Brufut, the Gambia, there was a lovely garden with a swimming pool and lots of colorful and fascinating birds would drop in for a visit. Especially interesting were the Hooded vultures that would come and perch in a tall tree at one end - they were great fun to watch and occasionally photograph. 1. Very beautiful! Definitely one of the prettier vulture species, in my opinion. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Haha - that's setting the bar pretty low! Actually, I really like vultures and find the Bearded Vulture and the Palm Nut Vulture to be very attractive, as well. Posted 5 years ago
      1. Lol! Vultures are actually my favorite birds <3. The bearded vulture is stunning! Posted 5 years ago
        1. Oh yes - I have seen them in captivity, but not yet in the wild. However, I have seen both Andean and California condors in the wild - majestic! My favorite vulture is still probably the King Vulture of South America - the colors on its head are just amazing. Posted 5 years ago

The Hooded Vulture is an Old World vulture in the order Accipitriformes, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. It is the only member of the genus "Necrosyrtes". It breeds in a stick nest in trees in much of Africa south of the Sahara, laying one egg. Birds may form loose colonies.
