Stereum complicatum/Stereum hirsutum Group on an Abnormal Substrate Jason and I were outside tidying up around the camper, and I heard him calling my name from beside our shipping/storage container. He found these fruiting bodies growing on a nylon rope. They were disturbed/broken a bit because he didn't realize they were there initially. There was no wood in the immediate vicinity (just soil/dirt), so we thought it was pretty interesting! Geotagged,Hairy Stereum,Stereum hirsutum,United States,Winter Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

    1. Yes, I did a bit of deep-diving on MO, and it looks like Alan Rockefeller has found S. hirsutum on a recycled plastic landscape barrier before! https://mushroomobserver.org/61092?q=16MXc Posted 5 years ago

"Stereum hirsutum" is a plant pathogen. "S. hirsutum" is in turn parasitised by certain other species such as the fungus "Tremella aurantia". Substrates for "S. hirsutum" include dead limbs and trunks of both hardwoods and conifers.
