Rhizopus oligosporus on Tempeh I saw that Christine was posting food mold/fungi, so I thought it would be interesting to add a fungus that is used to make tempeh, a fermented soybean food. <br />

Ferdy, if this isn&#039;t allowed, feel free to tip me off. I just find it interesting that there are so many fungi/bacteria out there that are necessary for food production! Geotagged,Rhizoporus oligosporus,United States,Winter Click/tap to enlarge Species introCountry intro

  1. Really cool, Lisa!

I just took some more photos yesterday, lol. No mold this time, but a mealy bug from a banana.

I'm also in the process of culturing stuff from swabs we took around the house as a homeschool science project. We are growing them in petri dishes. No idea how I will ever ID those though :/

    1. Oh nice! I took some pictures of some gnarly mold on butternut squash, but I have no idea what species it is!

I can't wait to see the results of your swabs! I'd love to hear about your setup for culturing!

      1. Sure thing, I'll FB you the details. It's super simple. I usually make my own agar, but was too lazy this time and just bought some pre-poured plates. The hard part this time of year is getting stuff to grow because of the colder temps, so I keep the plates under a lamp for most of the day. Posted 5 years ago
