Lepanthes matisii

A super miniature sized cold growing epiphyte found in a dwarf scrub forest with lots of tiny spiders, note the lip and column and how it appears to be a spider, Pollination occurs when the spider either attacks or wants to make love to the central part of the orchid

I discovered this orchid near Bogota Colombia in 1999 in a paintball field, it took me 12 years to convince the orchid world that it was a new species. It was described by Thoerle and Ortiz after I took them to see it in person and we collected a specimen to be preserved for science. Posted 5 years ago
