  1. Promoted to homepage, for a great shot and an unusual creature. Would be curious to learn which specie of wombat it is but I imagine it is hard to tell? Posted 12 years ago
    1. I think it must be the common wombat (Vombatus ursinus) as this is the only one of the three species of wombats being present at Tasmania. The other two species (much more rare) are only on the Australian mainland. Posted 12 years ago

  2. I think I was very lucky to get this shot as it was in the middle of the day and these nocturnal creatures only come out of their burrows at night or early morning. Posted 12 years ago, modified 12 years ago

The common wombat , also known as the coarse-haired wombat or bare-nosed wombat, is a marsupial, one of three species of wombats and the only one in the genus ''Vombatus''. The common wombat grows to an average of 98 cm long and a weight of 26 kg .
