Northern White-faced Owl in the wild
Gambia is paradise for birdwatchers from Europe and by many of the hotels along the coast, expert guides hang out around the hotels offering their services - which is well worth taking advantage of as you can see many birds that would be almost impossible to find otherwise. This one was pointed out to us in the woods behind out hotel.

The northern white-faced owl is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. The southern white-faced owl was formerly included in this species and the two were known as the white-faced scops-owl.
