Pictured here is probably one of the most recognizable North American natives, With a natural range spanning much of the the eastern US, and introduced populations across the entire country, most people who have spent a casual day fishing at their city park or local lake have encountered these fish. As a testament to how aggressive they can be, this fish has an obvious crescent shaped bite out of it's lower caudal fin lobe, likely from another bluegill excited by the commotion.

The Bluegill is a species of freshwater fish sometimes referred to as bream, brim, or copper nose. It is a member of the sunfish family Centrarchidae of the order Perciformes.
