  1. How beautiful, awe-inspiring and glorious! Posted 5 years ago
    1. It was stunning Ruth, the tepuis are awesome. Venezuela is glorious as are the Venezuelans, who are beautiful kind people and are suffering terribly. Posted 5 years ago
  2. Wow, did you hike there? I flew over Angel Falls once, but I heard (15 years ago) that getting to the base on foot was a serious endeavour. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Hi Barry, We were able to travel up the Carrao river from above the falls at the Canaima lagoon, you walk over one island in the river to avoid some serious rapids, then back to the boat - approximately 5 hours, then some serious wading as the river was in spate (flood), then approximately n hour's walk - the total day trip took about 12 hours - exhilarating and thrilling - a once in a lifetime trip - passing the tepuis - glorious! 1. Thanks, I was unaware of the river approach. When I asked our guide about hiking there, he said that it would take about 4-5 days. When I asked how strenuous it was, he asked me if I had ever spent a night in the forest there. I said no, and he replied - it is not for the faint of heart! It sounded really tough. 1. I think the option to use a boat to do the majority of the legwork travelling, only became an option about 10 years ago or so - I have been twice because my wife missed the 1st trip with broken ribs so went again the year after (I think for anyone with bad backs etc. the boat journey would take it out of them) - the 1st time we slept in hammocks having walked out from the falls by the junction of the Churun & the Carrao - so a 2 day trip Posted 5 years ago
