Easter Cassia
Native to Brazil and Paraguay. Widely distributed here through eastern parts of New South Wales, most commonly along the coastal regions. Easter cassia is a prolific seeder and its seedlings come up in bushland, disturbed areas and roadsides.
A spreading or sprawling shrub usually growing 2 to 4 m tall. The pea-like flowers are bright yellow, about 30 mm across. It flowers at Easter, hence the common name - which being in April, is of course autumn here.
Because it is a fast growing plant that can suppress the growth of native species and threaten our ecosystems, it is considered an exotic environmental weed in New South Wales.
