Hybrid Calibrachoa or trailing petunia is a tender perennial which produces flowers that look like small petunias.
The genus Calibrachoa was first recognized as being distinct from the genus Petunia in 1989, based in part on differences in chromosome numbers. The first commercial hybrids and cultivars of Calibrachoa were introduced to the gardening world in the 1990s.
