Beautiful gecko, Palmarium, Madagascar Found on the uninhabited island near Palmarium where they do the Aye-aye tours, at night. Sorry for the poor shot, had to rush it as I was holding up the boat.<br />

Found on the uninhabited island near Palmarium where they do the Aye-aye tours, at night. Sorry for the poor shot, had to rush it as I was holding up the boat.

  2. I think the ID is right. Hemidactylus platycephalus is very similar looking but I don't believe it is found that far south. Posted 5 years ago

''Hemidactylus mercatorius'' is a species of gecko. There has been confusion between this species and ''Hemidactylus mabouia'', making it difficult to establish the ranges of these species. While the Reptile Database gives ''Hemidactylus mercatorius'' a wide distribution in eastern Africa, the IUCN restricts its native distribution to Madagascar and some other islands in the Indian Ocean .
