  1. Using the "Xerochrysum bracteatum" name, which also seems accepted, and for which we already have a record.

    Great photo btw!

    1. Hi Ferdy - although I did note this alternative genus name in my notes for the image/sighting...I saw that Xerochrysum bracteatum specifically is a yellow species of this genus. In my research, Bracteantha bracteatum was the white. So, not sure where to go from here. Posted 3 years ago
      1. Going by what Wikipedia mentions, all of these names refer to the same species:

        Xerochrysum bracteatum
        Bracteantha bracteata
        Helichrysum bracteatum
        Helichrysum lucidum Henckel
        Helichrysum chrysanthum Pers

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerochrysum_bracteatum

On the page you indeed see a yellow form, labelled as the "wild form". The longer text explains how the species is widespread and highly variable in color, also due to cultivation. So my assumption here is that you white form is one of many forms of this same species.

If you read the taxonomy section of this species on Wikipedia, things get a lot more complex. There's many many names and the species has been transferred to multiple genuses. Current believe is that the current taxonomy is likely incorrect, and that in the future it is likely to be split up into multiple species.

I can't really foresee what will happen, so hope you understand that it may be best to now go for the current consensus.

        1. Thanks so much for your time and attention to this Ferdy. I should have made time to read the full Wiki page myself. Posted 3 years ago
