Indri - peeking, Mitsinjo reserve, Andasibe, Madagascar
Best seen full screen. Rambling some more on my f/1.4 experiment. Normally, I cringe when shooting against the light from a dark forest. The result is almost always bad due to color fringing and the inability to bring back contrast and detail in the dark subject.
Doing the same thing with f/1.4 brings a different and interesting result. Some might still consider it sucky, yet in any case it is different. Light is not rendered harsh white, more like a soft halo. The subject is still low contrast, yet some consider this attractive (ahem, instagram filters). In this strategy, we don't fight low contrast, we embrace it.
The result is interestingly good or bad, but in any case interesting.

The indri, also called the babakoto, is one of the largest living lemurs. It is a diurnal tree-dweller related to the sifakas and, like all lemuroids, it is native to Madagascar.
