Madagascar Leaf-nosed Snake head closeup One of the many wildlife oddities in Madagascar, the Madagascar Leaf-nosed snake is a cryptic specie that is poorly documented. This one likely is a male due to its spear-like nose which is more bend in females. I&#039;ve found very little useful information online about this fantastic specie, other than this research paper:<br />

  1. I'm self-promoting this to the homepage to give this mysterious specie some attention. If you're curious about this specie, this video is quite nice:

  3. Wow, I had never even heard of this one... Posted 12 years ago
  4. Me neither, I'd say someone stepped on it, no pun intended. In a reserve, yes, I can imagine this one to be almost impossible to spot in any piece of free nature. It must have been a closeby shot given the 105mm. Nice one! Posted 12 years ago
    1. Yes, this one is pretty close, but it's done with the 105mm macro, so there's still a safe distance in between :) Posted 12 years ago

Langaha madagascariensis is a medium-sized highly cryptic arboreal species. It is endemic to Madagascar and found in deciduous dry forests and rain forests. There is considerable sexual dimorphism within the species; the males are dorsally brown and ventrally yellow with a long tapering snout while the females are mottled grey with a leaf shaped snout. Envenomation by the snake causes severe pain in humans but is not deadly.
