Indri, Mitsinjo reserve, Andasibe, Madagascar
After 2 days in Andasibe, we still had to deliver our fellow traveler Ymke a good Indri experience, so on this last day in the area we made way to the best spot to do so: Mitsinjo reserve. Mitsinjo reserve was the stage for David Attenborough's coverage of this species:
In this reserve, the species is studied and several animals have learn to trust guides. The Indris may occasionally come down to eye level when fed their favorite leafs by staff.
I'll cut up our own experience into multiple posts.
Fun fact: this particular Indri still was high up, looking down on another Indri that was already being fed at eye level. After 10 minutes, it got fed up by the other being the center of attention, leaped into the same tree, and shit on the other's head.

The indri, also called the babakoto, is one of the largest living lemurs. It is a diurnal tree-dweller related to the sifakas and, like all lemuroids, it is native to Madagascar.
