
Lissotriton vulgaris
I encounter these regularly in the utility spaces under the floors of our buildings here, together with small frogs and toads. This one was sitting in a space we're trying to get dry, so I decided to evacuate it and make use of the situation for some snapshots ... Distinctive pattern on belly here:
The Smooth Newt, also known as the Common Newt, "Lissotriton vulgaris" is the most common newt species of the "Lissotriton" genus of amphibians. "L. vulgaris" is found throughout Europe except the far north, areas of Southern France, and the Iberian peninsula.
