  1. Beautifully dynamic against that mossy background. It does indeed bring to mind Turkey Tail with its pale edging. Posted 7 days ago
    1. Thanks, Ruth. I shall have to go back and take a photo of the underside to show the “teeth”. There were more dispersed over a wide area with no woody substrate visible. The other possible ID could have been P. atratus which was only named in 1964. So much fun! Gary Posted 6 days ago

''Phellodon tomentosus'', commonly known as the zoned cork hydnum, is a species of tooth fungus in the family Bankeraceae. First described as ''Hydnum tomentosum'' by Carl Linnaeus in 1753, it was transferred to the genus ''Phellodon'' by Howard James Banker in 1906. It is found in Asia, Europe, and North America.
