Ray Spider Egg Sac - Theridiosoma gemmosum <br />
Golden brown sac that was suspended by a thread that was forked at the top. The top of the sac has a cap, which is partly pushed off when the spiderlings emerge. Egg sac was about 3 mm long.<br />

  1. Whoops, I would have been tempted to shout "genus Ero" at first sight, which isn't even in the same family (Mimetidae as opposed to Theridiosomatidae), which shows me I'd best keep quiet about spiders :o) Posted 5 years ago
    1. Oh, wow - interesting! I hadn't heard of that genus before, but their egg cases are certainly very similar! I was only able to ID this with the help of a book and someone else's genius (Charley Eiseman). On my own, I'm not even sure if I would have realized that this was a spider's egg sac, hehe. ''Theridiosoma gemmosum'' is a species of spider in the family Theridiosomatidae, known as ray spiders. It is widely distributed in the Holarctic region. A small spider with a shiny globular abdomen, it constructs a conical orb web.
